A successful fisheries enforcement operation was conducted today at Jethuya Beel under the initiative of the Office of the Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer, Tala, Satkhira. During the operation, 7 illegal "China Duari" fishing nets were seized and later destroyed by burning in the presence of local residents.
The local community was made aware of the legal restrictions and environmental impacts associated with the use, sale, and transportation of such prohibited nets. Emphasis was given on conservation and the long-term benefits of responsible fishing.
Md. Tarik Emam, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer, said:
"China Duari nets are extremely fine-meshed, capturing even fish eggs, fry, and juveniles. This severely disrupts natural fish breeding cycles and reduces fish density during spawning seasons. It also poses a serious threat to aquatic biodiversity."
He further added:
"If the use of these nets can be stopped, fish production in beels, rivers, and other water bodies will significantly increase. Fisher communities will benefit from sustainable harvesting, and national fishery resources will be better preserved."
The Department acknowledged the cooperation of the local community and announced that such enforcement drives will continue in the future to protect aquatic resources.
